Trips Right Flood

Gun Trips Right, 11 personnel vs. 4-3 over front, single high safety

Single high means three deep and four underneath. Flood puts three routes at three depths on the trips side, so the flat defender and the corner can't cover all of them. The QB reads flat → corner → safety valve.

Assignments

QB3-step drop. Read flat defender → corner → RB check-down.

X12-yard comeback on the backside. Keeps the free safety honest.

ZGo route. Clear out the corner.

Y10-yard corner route, break at the numbers.

H5-yard flat. Get width fast.

RBCheck blitz, then release to the flat.

OLSlide protection to the left. Center makes the Mike call.

Coaching points

—QB: read the flat defender. If he sinks, throw the flat. If he jumps it, throw the corner.
—Z: stem vertical to push the corner deep before you break.
—Y: sell vertical for 5 yards, then break at 12 yards to the sideline.
—RB: check blitz first, then release to the flat as the safety valve.

How to install

—Walk it vs air with cones at 5, 10 and 18 yards so receivers learn the three levels.
—Rep the QB read with one coach playing the flat defender, sinking or jumping.

Counters & adjustments

—If they roll to Cover 2, the corner sits in the flat — throw the corner route behind him.
—If the Sam blitzes, RB picks him up and the QB throws the flat hot.
